Akinori "Aki" Otsuka
One of the best relievers in Japanese League history when he signed with the Padres in December 2003, Otsuka welcomed what he called the ultimate challenge, to match skills against the best players in the world, and he certainly can't be disappointed with his effort. The always smiling, fan favorite reliever finished 3rd in the 2004 NL R.O.Y. voting behind Jason Bay and Khalil Greene, as Otsuka lead the NL in holds with 34 while quickly become one of the best set-up men in the game. Traded to Texas in the winter of 2005, Otsuka taken over the Rangers' closer role within a month. Pictured here is his 2004 Donruss Studio rookie card, with the city of San Diego showing in the background.
