Choo was named the MVP and Best Pitcher in the 1999 and 2000 President's Cup, Korea's most prestigious high school tournament, and he was a member of the 2000 Korean Junior National Team which competed in the Junior AAA Championships. The Mariners decided to make Choo into an outfielder where he will be patrolling the outfield grass in Safeco along with Ichiro for years to come. But with a deep depth of talents in the outfield, Choo was traded away by Seattle during the 2006 trading deadline.
